Meeting the Wild
A leaving-home rite of passage
at Cae Mabon, North Wales
for all ages
What was your experience of leaving home for the first time? Have you now as an adult found your true place in society? Or do you perhaps feel lost, cast adrift in your own life, confused and disorientated?
A pervasive sense of fear, doubt and confusion about who you are and where you are going can be a sign that you have missed out on one or more important rites of passage in your life. In traditional societies, significant transitions, such as leaving home, marrying and giving birth, are marked with rituals or ‘rites’ that support people to let go of their old identity and embrace the new. In modern secular society, however, many of us miss out on such rites. Without them we can end up stranded in a form of psychological no-man’s land, unable to fully release the old self and fearful and unprepared for what lies ahead. Our transition into mature adulthood therefore remains incomplete.
Meeting the Wild addresses the lack of rites in our culture by providing a powerful opportunity to revisit the important transitions in your life – in particular, your ‘leaving home story’. In the stunningly beautiful landscape of Cae Mabon in Wales, Caroline & Ben will share a powerful journey of self-discovery, an adventure into the mystery, to reclaim and integrate the parts of yourself that have been lost along the way. On this potent journey into the unknown, wild nature will be your guide, the drum beat will be your calling, and the spirit world will send its allies to your side. The tools will include dance, meditations, shamanic journeys, time in nature as vision-quest, ritual and ceremony, writing and creativity. We cannot know quite what form the journey will take. Only you can decide as you meet the dancer within you, choose to take each step, learn to trust in yourself and the support that lies all around in both the seen and unseen worlds.
Having completed your rite and assumed your new identity, you will be ready at last to re-enter society, with your heart opened, a renewed sense of connection and responsibility to all of life, and security in the knowledge of who you are and your true place in the world.
During the workshop, we will move through the following steps to explore our leaving-home story:
- Creation & Curiosity – Fascination as sacred medicine
- Rebel or Artist – Creating the map, where am I going?
- Lifting the veils of illusion - Where am I now?
- Return to Essence - Who am I?
- Unfolding the Mystery

Come and remember, come and share offer to the play of life
the rite of passage you forgot to do
because no one told you
you could or it was necessary.
Tell yourself it did not matter?
Deny yourself with shame,
hide yourself and tell yourself it simply is a game.
Afraid to show to others self-indulgent did they say?
What do we choose from our hearts to remember of that day?
Come remember yourself ,
the journey that’s not forgotten let it all become its dance,
be seen and celebrated
your life it is a ritual a re-membering, a tale to be told,
a forgotten being
a story of the heroine
or of a wounded soul
They always have their place, a story to unfold
the lives that they have touched that will never grow too old
An empowering rite of passage that can no longer be denied,
you know in your heart it matters
and your life can be your pride!
It is known as one of the most powerful of (spiritual) experiences we can have in life. Mandorla is the place of poetry 'where the fire and the rose are one!' (Four Quartets, T.S. Eliot)
"Sometimes within our individual self and within the self of our worn-out society, there is no answer to conflict. There is, however, a way to stand within the center of the opposing forces. Conflict creates tremendous energy. If we leave out judgement then that 'energy' can become a vibration of light. Not always just a single light but many lights, sending out a vibration that is LOVE!" — Caroline Carey
Knowing our purpose and how we might wish to offer it into the world means deeply acknowledging all that we are. In order to fully embrace our purpose, we must know our shadow, we must know the dreamer, we must befriend the inevitable death of all things. It is a way to embrace and accept who we are as a complete human being, who knows him/her self at a core level. Mandorla is the ancient symbol for wholeness. When we are in conflict we often do not feel whole. The key to transforming the destructive consequences of conflict into life-affirming outcomes lies in how we relate to the tension between opposites. When we can hold the tension within ourselves and are aware of it, bearing the pain, beauty and terror that this brings, we bring the two opposing elements together, creating a space in which the split between the two can be resolved. We call this space the 'mandorla' – a word derived from 'almond' in Italian, which refers to the almond shape created when two circles overlap. The mandorla also known as the 'Vesica Piscis' is the sacred space of our soul work; when we stand in this place, we have the ability to transform what once was a curse into powerful medicine for the soul. Its energy is that of the Father Mother Principle in the
Divine Union, the mother of all forms and the Yin and Yang that has been known to us for decades.
This is an intensive workshop using the Mandorla process, deep enquiry and contemplation, befriending the inevitable death of all things and accepting the wise elder within us. You will have the opportunity to explore the conflict of meeting your core-wounds in relationship to your aspirations to discover authentic, integrated empowerment!
As human beings, we can exist on multiple planes of being; the one that we are usually most aware of, however, is the material world. By its nature, the material world is a place of duality – a place of opposites that we often experience as being in conflict with one another. Examples include heaven and earth, light and dark, masculine and feminine, loyalty and betrayal, to name but a few. The polarity between these opposites creates a fundamental tension at an evolutionary level that has the potential to be either profoundly destructive or powerfully generative and creative. The evidence of the destructive consequences of this tension lies all around us in the terrible scourges of war, inequality and conflict within and between individuals, groups and societies.
The key to transforming the destructive consequences of conflict into life-affirming outcomes lies in how we relate to the tension between opposites. When we can hold the tension within ourselves, bearing the pain, beauty and terror that this brings, we bring the two opposing elements together, creating a space in which the split between the two can be resolved. Its energy is that of the Father Mother Principle in the Divine Union, the Mother of all Forms and the Yin and Yang that has been known to us for decades.
During this workshop, we will use the tools of dance, creativity, movement meditation and constellation-work to work with the magic of the mandorla. You will have the opportunity to explore some of the conflicts in your life, looking at how they play out in your life and how they affect you by embodying them in the dance. Then, with the support of the group and a constellation process held and guided by Caroline and the drum beat, you will enter the space of the mandorla, allowing it to work its magic upon you, bringing the riches of wisdom and new insights.
This work is open to all adults, regardless of gender, age, experience or ability. Whether you want to work with deep-rooted issues, or simply discover new insights, whether you are training in therapeutic studies, or a student of life's experiences, this work has something to offer you.

"Magic of Mandorla, amazing and deep work with Caroline Carey. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT to anyone who is studying to become a therapist or is one already but seeking the thread of connection in continuing your own development and work with your own process (which we so need when we work with others - right?). If you feel called to this work, then follow your intuition and go for it! I think it's of excellent quality." Suzan Lemont
